Kate grew up two hours south of The Bridge in North Central Michigan. As a high schooler, she experimented with photography for the school yearbook, intending to be the next Margaret Bourke White. During college she studied Outdoor Recreation and worked in the Adventure Education Field across the United States. Eventually she found her way to Minnesota for graduate work in Expeiential Education and a K12 Art Education License. She has been a teaching artist since 2005 showing artwork across the region and currently works with 11th-12th graders at Perpich Center for Art Education.
Artist Statement: I am a sculptor. I use easily accessible materials to create contemporary forms, explore ideas of space, and connect to the natural world. My work is often grounded in an organic sensibility interpreted through material transformation. I seek to explore an embodied philosophy through the lived experience.
I seek to create opportunities for the viewer to engage, experience, question, and explore one’s connection to self, the world, and humanity. The intention of my work is to be a catalyst for the viewer’s life experiences as well as connect to universal themes.
